Le Réseau des Universités du Sahel pour la Résilience (REUNIR) dont l’UGB est membre fondateur en rapport avec le bureau pays PAM du Sénégal organise un bootcamp sur la gestion durable des terres et des eaux à Matam pour une meilleure résilience des communautés du 14 au 18 octobre 2024. L'objectif général du bootcamp est de former les acteurs de la zone de Matam sur les stratégies et pratiques de gestion durable des terres ainsi que sur la conservation des eaux.
La région de Matam est particulièrement vulnérable aux effets du changement climatique, qui se manifestent par une augmentation des températures, des précipitations irrégulières et des phénomènes météorologiques extrêmes tels que les sécheresses et les inondations. Ces changements climatiques exacerbent la pression sur les ressources naturelles et aggravent la dégradation des sols, compromettant ainsi la résilience des écosystèmes et la sécurité alimentaire des populations locales (UNDP, 2020). Face à ces défis, il est impératif de mettre en œuvre des interventions durables visant à restaurer et à protéger les sols de Matam. Les approches traditionnelles de gestion des terres doivent être repensées pour intégrer les principes de durabilité, de résilience et d'adaptation aux changements climatiques. Il est également essentiel d'adopter une approche participative et inclusive, en impliquant les communautés locales et les différents acteurs dans la conception et la mise en œuvre de solutions efficaces (FAO, 2021).
Durant ces cinq jours, l’objectif de cet atelier est de former et de renforcer les capacités de 60 participants, issus des communautés locales, des étudiants, des services techniques, des ONG et des autorités locales.
Ce bootcamp offre l’occasion d’explorer des techniques de conservation des sols, de gestion durable des ressources en eau et de pratiques maraîchères.
Pour le Professeur Lamine DIOP, représentant de REUNIR/UGB et du Recteur de l’UGB, l’Université Gaston Berger est une institution résolument engagée pour la résilience et le développement durable et est fière d’être associée à cette initiative. Ce bootcamp est plus qu’une simple formation; c’est un espace de collaboration. Chaque participant, qu’il soit étudiant, technicien, membre de la communauté ou responsable local, est appelé à jouer un rôle clé dans la mise en œuvre de solutions concrètes qui permettront de relever les défis de demain.
Quant au représentant du PAM, monsieur Mamadou WANE, cet atelier est plus qu’un carrefour d’échanges et de partage puisqu’il permet de réunir, des professeurs d’universités, des étudiants, des agents communautaires, des techniciens, tous ayant des expériences dans la conduite des travaux, dans la récupération des terres, dans la gestion des eaux dans les différentes régions dans lesquelles ils interviennent. Pour rappel, le partenariat UGB/REUNIR date de longtemps et dans ce cadre, le PAM a beaucoup appuyé l’UGB collaborant avec des étudiants de master. L’innovation cette année pour le PAM a été de recruter quatre anciens étudiants de Master sous forme de volontaires des Nations Unies affectés dans les différents sous bureaux de Kolda, Kaolack et Matam.
Président l’atelier, le sous-préfet de Kanel, Monsieur Amadou Mamadou BA, représentant le Préfet a remercié le réseau REUNIR ainsi que le PAM et ses partenaires pour avoir choisi la région de Matam qui fait face à la désertification, la dégradation des sols et la gestion complexe des ressources en Eau avant de déclarer ouvert le bootcamp.
Il est à rappeler la présence du chef de village de Tekinguel et du représentant du Maire de Ndendory, les deux sites de références.
